I know this sounds crazy, but this felt fast. Faster than the current car. I know they are slower, but it looked and felt fast.

Feeling "fast" has more to do with acceleration and the limits of acceleration.

With less downforce, the limits of sideways acceleration were lower, so the cars seem to approach them and 'shimmy' dangerously at the limit due to how relatively high the limits of accelleration are in a straight line, while on full power (and they still have a better p/w ratio than modern F1 cars, at least in qualifying trim) they appear to move faster.

Or, in other words, it's not how fast the lap is, but how drastic the changes in speed are and how close to the limits you get when make that makes for an exciting lap.

Well, it did have 1500 HP. So it probably was faster, depending on the track.
